FLEX Global is a unique opportunity for secondary school students from around the world to spend one academic year in the United States, living with a host family and attending a U.S. high school. Participants gain firsthand insight into and appreciation of U.S. daily life and culture, share about their own countries with their host communities, and build lasting relationships with their host families as well as between the United States and participating countries. FLEX Global students may be the first from their country that many Americans meet, and students act as young “ambassadors” by sharing their culture and giving presentations about their home countries to their host communities.

Recruitment typically begins in the fall. For information on eligibility requirements, go to the Apply to FLEX Global page or contact the program office in your country by clicking here. Results will be announced in the spring, and selected finalists will travel to the U.S. in summer for the academic year, returning home as FLEX Global alumni the following spring.

“Learning about American history, leadership, and the power of worldwide connections, this experience reminded me that the limit is where you set the bar. Thanks to the United States Department of State, I feel inspired and ready to use these lessons to make a difference.”
