International experience is a key to your students’ success in today’s world. The Department of State has conducted funded study abroad exchange programs for American high school students safely and successfully since the launch of Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) program in 1983, the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program in 2006, the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad program in 2009, and the FLEX Abroad program in 2021 (FLEX and YES are the forerunners of FLEX Global).
These varied programs offer young Americans a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth and fosters the next generation of leaders. Applicants from across the U.S. are selected based on merit and demonstration of their readiness for an immersive cultural exchange program. FLEX Global Abroad participants are placed in one of the following host countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Morocco, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, or Thailand. Participants live with host families for an academic year and attend local schools while sharing about America and forming lasting relationships with their host families and friends.
FLEX Global Abroad appreciates the key role that educators play in fostering students’ interest in the wider world and encouraging students to participate in opportunities that expand their knowledge, experiences, and worldviews. Thank you in advance for sharing information about the FLEX Global Abroad program with your student body, and please feel free to contact American Councils at highschoolstudyabroad@americancouncils.org or 1-800-380-6552 if you:
